Canberra won their first game of the World Cup of Croatian emigrant clubs. Sydney United 58 lost again, while Toronto Croatia were held to a draw.
In Group A, Toronto Croatia played Croatia Villefranche. The game ended with a draw, with Josip Keran scoring for Canadian Croats. The team of Vojvodina Croats won again, this time against Sydney United 58 3-1. Sydney will now have no chance of playing the finals on Saturday and Toronto Croatia will have to win against Vojvodina Croats in order to play the final match which will decide the winner of the tournament.
In Group B, Pajde Möhlin from Switzerland went for their second win against Croatia Malmö (Sweden). Even though the Swedish Croats were in a lead two times, Pajde managed to win 3-2 with a big help of the opposition goalkeeper who received two goals from free kicks, the second one from 40 yards out.
A young team from Canberra were better than Croatia from Stuttgart. Canberra were ahead after 10 minutes of the game, when Vrkić scored after a set piece. In the 59th minute, Pezerović equalized with a great shot from just outside the box.
But, Canberra didn’t surrender – they scored two counter attack goals in a matter of minutes – first Jadrić, after a great assist, then Field.

The final result was 3-1 to Canberra. And how much this victory meant to them, everyone who walked past their dressing room after the match could hear… They have now secured the finals on Saturday, but will have to win their last match against Pajde if they want to have a chance of winning the tournament. If they fail to win, they’ll play for the 3rd place.
